Meet Jessica

I am honored to be seeking re-election to the Redmond City Council in 2023! Check out the Successes! page for a glimpse into the work I've accomplished during my first term in office.

I have been a small business owner and Creative Director of a design studio since 2006. I work primarily with non-profit organizations and clients whose core values revolve around serving and improving the community. My work has ranged from domestic and international LEED-certified large scale mixed-use architecture projects, like the ones popping up in downtown Redmond, to establishing the brand for the Seattle Symphony’s Grammy Award-winning record label. Being a creative thinker in these industries means taking a holistic approach and putting people at the forefront of all decisions; I am bringing this kind of thinking to the Redmond City Council.

A firm believer in being active at the local level, I have seen first-hand the impact one person can have. I was active in grassroots organizing for the Washington Voting Rights Act, Automatic Voter Registration, Washington I-1000, Washington I-1639, and Prop 1 Access for All, to name a few. During the 2016 election cycle I had the privilege to represent my precinct as a County Delegate. Additionally, I contacted over 10,000 voters nationwide in advance of the 2018 mid-term elections and had meaningful conversations about the real issues our nation is facing. Currently, I serve as an elected Precinct Committee Officer and on the Redmond City Council as Council President.

Prior to being in elected office I served as the C3 Treasurer on the board of League of Women Voters Seattle-King County, as member of the Executive Committee, as Co-Chair of the 2019 Voices of Democracy dinner, and on the 2019 Nominating Committee. I also served on the Executive Board for the 48th Legislative District Democrats. Additionally, I volunteer with Help Portrait International since 2009. In 2012, I founded the Redmond, WA Help Portrait chapter and lead our team in community volunteer events with The Together Center, Evergreen Court Retirement Community, City of Auburn Community Center, Bailey-Boushay House | Seattle HIV/AIDS Care, Acres of Diamonds, Compass Housing, Wellspring Family Services, and King County Reunification Day. I co-founded the Seattle Symphony PRIDE contingent in 2014 and served as the co-chair through 2018. I have been a member of The American Legion Auxiliary since 1988, have volunteered with the Special Olympics USA and New Zealand, and the New Zealand Blood Bank.

Top Issues

Local Business

Redmond is experiencing an incredible amount of growth at a rate of 20% each year. I am committed to ensuring that the small, independent, and family-owned businesses have a voice during this time of expansion. It is our responsibility to see that our local businesses share in the growth their hard work helped usher in and ensure they are not forced out of the community.

Environment

During Redmond’s growth, we must be vigilant of the impact it is having on our environment. I believe it is the Council’s job to set guidelines for green initiatives that meet and exceed LEED sustainability standards.

I believe we have a responsibility to focus on the continued growth of our walking and bike paths so everyone has access to a safe, healthy, and environmentally friendly way to play and commute.

Equity

One of the things I love most about living in Redmond is our incredible community. I will not only continue celebrating our many voices and cultures, but will actively focus on creating equity within our community.

Whether you grew up here, have lived here for 20 years, or recently made Redmond your home, inclusion and a strong sense of community is what makes Redmond an incredible place to live.

Infrastructure

We must plan for our growth responsibly and that includes ensuring our city buildings are able to support our city. I am committed to addressing the aging infrastructure of our city buildings, 54% of which are undersized, poorly-configured, and unable to support our city’s recent growth.

It is our responsibility to approach caring for our city holistically. To ensure that our traffic lights are synced, our buildings are maintained, and our quality of life is upheld for future generations.
